i picked wild strawberries for you from
the tall
half-wild grass
like the soul i was trying to coalesce
you didn’t know what they were
you squinted and accepted them out of politeness
you shouted at me
these are so good
as i had found some just outside the garden gates
just inside my heart gates
as excited as you ran through the forrest of my childhood
(with all the trees inscribed by initials, but not yet ours)
and touched the moss like you were caressing the inner linings of my heart
and hugged the trees like i would’ve loved to allow you to hug me out in the open
and screamed
at the top of your lungs
AAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAA
aaaaaa
announcing that we have arrived
that we are here
but also your departure.
